Wednesday in The Locker Room:

  • New Hawks CEO Steve Koonin joined us on the heels of the team's Game 2 loss at Indiana and he told Crump and JP his goal is to re-create and cultivate Atlanta's passion for basketball.
  • Steve also said he intends to clear up many of the misconceptions that exist about Philips Arena and downtown Atlanta.
  • And Steve shared a story about his former colleague from his days with Turner, Craig Sager, who he wished well in his fight against leukemia.
  • Crump and JP also wrapped up the Falcons introductory press conferences from their workouts yesterday and the guys were encouraged by the tone set by Mike Smith, who delivered the same forceful message he did in his phone interview with the guys last week.

Tuesday in The Locker Room:

  • Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl President and CEO Gary Stokan joined us on the heels of the restoration of 'Peach' to the bowl's name, a six-year agreement with ESPN and the announced intention to aggresively bid for the National Championship at the conclusion of the 2017 season. Gary says these factors working in concert with the new Falcons stadium and launching of the College Football Hall of Fame put Atlanta at the epicenter of College Football moving forward.
  • Gary also said Atlanta is tailor-made for large events and can look forward to the benefits from kickoff games, bowl games and postseason match-ups for years to come.
  • We also continued breaking down the linebacker position in our Falcons Reload segment and uncovered one aspect of Atlanta that former UCLA standout Anthony Barr enjoyed prior to his visit with the Falcons this week.

  • FSN Indiana's televion voice of the Pacers Chris Denari joined us to wrap up the Hawks stunning game 1 defeat of the Pacers on Saturday and he told the guys that Pacers center Roy Hibbert's issues are unfortunately not a recent phenomenon.
  • We also discussed the series with TNT's Ernie Johnson Jr, who says the Pacers are in some serious trouble in their series against the Hawks.
  • Ernie also talked about Craig Sager Jr. stepping in for his father as he battles leukemia and how it was actually Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich's decison to conduct the interview live prior to the 4th quarter of a tight playoff game rather than record a segment prior to the game.

  • New York running back Chris Johnson joined us on the heels of signing his new contract with the Jets and he told Crump and JP he still has a chip on his shoulder after he was released by Tennessee.
  • Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson checked in as his team prepares to take the field for Friday's Spring Game and he gave the guys an update on their quarterback position.
  • And we caught up with MLB on FOX broadcaster and former Braves pitcher John Smoltz who said he's impressed with the job the young Braves rotation has done so far this season.

  • Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed joined Crump and JP on the heels of yesterday's official launch of an MLS franchise in town, and the Mayor told the guys this announcement demonstrates that Atlanta means business when it comes to competing on the national and international stage.
  • Mayor Reed also said the combination of a new stadium plus an MLS franchise puts Atlanta in a strong position to bid for a Wold Cup.
  • ESPN Soccer analyst Alexi Lalas also joined us and he told the guys he was impressed by the turnout and reception at yesterday's announcement.
  • And we were lucky enough to catch up with the NFL's All-Time leading rusher, Hall-of-Famer Emmitt Smith, who told Crump and JP that Falcon fans shouldn't be so quick to give up on Steven Jackson after one down season.
