Longtime Atlanta news anchor arrested on DUI charges

When people face DUI charges in Georgia, there is a lot at stake. Not only will they deal with driver's license suspensions and the potential of fines and jail time, but a drunk driving charge can also deal a major blow to someone's reputation. This is unfortunate, because of course not everyone who is charged with DUI is guilty of driving over the legal blood alcohol limit, but sometimes people do also make mistakes.

A local television news anchor was arrested on DUI charges in Atlanta earlier this week and her employer, Fox 5, has said it is investigating the situation. It remains to be seen whether these charges will affect her employment.

The news anchor, Amanda Davis, was arrested after being involved in a wrong-way car accident. She was reportedly driving north in the southbound lane of Piedmont Avenue, near 14th Street, in Midtown when the accident occurred.

The driver of the other car was reportedly injured but the extent of these injuries remains unclear. When a car accident results in injuries DUI charges can become even more complicated.

An arresting officer said Davis smelled like alcohol and that she admitted she had been drinking, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She refused a field sobriety test and blood alcohol tests.

She is expected to be charged with DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

DUI charges are always taken seriously in Georgia. Many people who face first-time DUI charges are upstanding professionals with careers and families. It is always important for DUI defendants to take the charges seriously and ensure their rights are protected. In many DUI cases, with a proper defense enlisted, it is possible for the legal mess to be untangled and the life-altering consequences of the charges to be avoided as much as possible.
