What if?

My buddy Jay Crawford and I have been debating via text messages about Boise State and their validity in a real conference! If there's one thing I hate, it’s the "What if?" talk. What if Boise was in the ACC, SEC, or one of the BIGS, or even the Pac-10??? We have no idea what they would or wouldn't do!

I played in the ACC and there's been years/times when Duke and Wake Forest stepped up to the challenge and competed. GT in '90 shocked the world, won a SHIP and beat Nebraska 45-21 in the Citrus Bowl. We were very bad and then we hired Bobby Ross -- you see, a good Coach really makes a huge difference. So does a bad one. Bobby knew football and had a staff that recruited the Country, not just Georgia. He brought in guys like Marco Coleman from Ohio, Willie Clay from Pittsburgh and players from Florida and South ...

Top 10 list for football season (for the ladies)

With football season officially around the corner, I thought I'd do all of the women that listen to the Stews a huge favor. Here's your top 10 list to assure you a happy home during football season. Please ladies ... trust me on this!

10. When it comes to your to-do list, honey-do list, aggravate-your-Hubby or better-half list or whatever you call it ... put it on hold one hour prior to kickoff of the first game on Sunday and on Monday night. FYI -- games start at 1 p.m. eastern on Sundays and 8:30 p.m. eastern on Mondays.

9. Because Sundays and Mondays are off-limits for the next few months or until the Super Bowl is over in Feburary, pick a few days to go and do something you enjoy. Take a trip to the mall, go get a mani/pedi, go get your hair done, how about a spa day? You ...

Is it just me or are people being a little critical of Shaquille O'Neal for going to the Celtics this season? Why do you care if he's a hired gun? Why do folks continue to say he's washed up and can't play anymore? If that's the case, after winning a title with Miami, why did three other teams (Phoenix, Cleveland and now Boston) request his services to help them get a championship ring? The latest team -- the storied franchise called the Boston Celtics. Yes, THE Boston Celtics that have won 17 championships. THE Boston Celtics that were less than 1 quarter away against the L.A. Lakers this past season from hanging their 18th banner in the rafters. Not only is Shaq one of the best big men to ever play the position ... he's still one of the best that the NBA has in the game today.

In sports, you can't teach size and speed. And the Big ...

Blog on the King

So listen ... before LeBron runs his version of a Jerry Lewis telethon tonight, I wanted to go on the record with a few thoughts. I really think he and his crew mean well. These dudes have been given a lot of responsibility at very young ages. They also have stacks of cash to make things happen. So they've decided to jack the four-letter network for a complete hour to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of America ... and to pub The King prior to him deciding who will be blessed to pay him MILLIONS of dollars. To the crew and maybe The King himself this makes a lot of sense. They've brainstormed, ran this by marketing folks, agent-types and they've talked to focus groups that agree. They're simply seizing the moment and they're making the most of it. It's sad because “Team James” is starting to look like ...

Ok, I'm pissed! No ... for real y’all, I'm very upset. It's being reported that one of the best to ever play the game of baseball has been caught taking a nap during a ball game. That's right, at 40, Ken Griffey, Jr …"The Kid" needed a freaking nap while his manager was looking for him to pinch hit.

Griffey is having what is considered to be the worst season of his Hall of Fame career. He's batting .208 with ZERO homers and only 5 RBI. "The Kid" has made around $150 million in his 22-year career. I know things are bad out west for the Mariners right now on the field and with Milton Bradley causing his usual stir, but has it come to this?

Now let me explain why I'm so P'd off. Back when I played professional sports in the late 90's, the locker room was considered sacred. ...
