Georgia Tech prospects
Derrick Morgan, DE -- He is definitely the stud of the group. Great football player, instinctive, explosive and the best characteristic is that he plays hard every down. Long arms and a great 40 time in Indy (4.72) at almost 270 lbs. No doubt about it, a first round pick. He will have a long career and pile up a ton of sacks.
Demaryius "Bay Bay" Thomas, WR -- Is he Dwayne Jarrett or Calvin Johnson? He has to really work in the film room and make sure he learns how to read defenses. Learning curve will be steep, he has to learn to run all the routes in a pro-style offense. Really tough to judge his speed without a 40.
Jonathan Dwyer, RB -- Good football player but definitely not a first-round pick anymore. Tough 40 time in Indy, and the offense in which he played hurts him. He will have to adjust to the seven-yard depth, pass blocking and also catching the ball out of the backfield at the next level.
Morgan Burnett, FS -- Over six feet tall with some serious athletic ability. He is extremely intriguing because of his versatility. He could play safety, corner and even nickelback if you needed him to. Will contribute right away on special teams.
Georgia prospects
Geno Atkins, DT -- Really helped show his athletism and versatility at the Combine. He weighed in at 293 pounds and ran 4.75 -- that’s outstanding. He struggled at the Senior Bowl the week of practice, but proved himself in the game with a solid performance. Atkins should be a very productive player in the NFL, but not a perennial pro bowler.
Rashad Jones, S -- This is a tough guy to judge because he has all the tools to be a Pro Bowl-caliber player. Big, fast, strong and the desire to take your head off when you come over the middle. That all sounds great but then he goes through spurts where he disappears and appears disinterested. He controls his own destiny; the best case for Rashad is to go to a team with a great leader who will teach him how to be a professional.
Jeff Owens, DT -- Full grown man. He benched 225 pounds 44 times at the combine and showed his strength. He was a highly-rated player a few years ago, but tore his ACL and has lost a step since then. Owens will be a guy who is always fighting for a job in the NFL. He is great at the point of attack and can play 3-4 or 4-3 defensive schemes.
Rennie Curran, LB -- Curran was a tackling machine during his three-year career at Georgia. He was only 5-foot-10 at the Combine but he was a stocky 235 lbs. He is a great player whose size will scare a lot of folks. He will be an immediate impact player on special teams and a positive force in the locker room.
