Braves Agree to Terms with Free-Agent Pitcher Gavin Floyd

Right-hander agrees to one-year deal

ATLANTA – Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager Frank Wren announced today that the Braves have agreed to terms with free-agent right-handed pitcher Gavin Floyd on a one-year contract for the 2014 season. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Floyd, 30, owns a 70-70 career record with a 4.48 ERA and 903 strikeouts in 199 games (187 starts) in 10 Major League seasons.

Originally selected by Philadelphia in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2001 draft, Floyd spent three seasons (2004-06) with the Phillies.  In December 2006 he was traded to the Chicago White Sox, where he spent the last seven seasons.  Floyd posted double-digit win totals in five straight seasons, from 2008 to 2012, including a career-best 17-8 mark in 2008.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pounder was limited to just five starts in 2013 and underwent “Tommy John” surgery last May to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
