UGA kickers, NFL Blackouts & Rick Reilly, among other things

*Congrats to Drew Butler, sophomore punter at UGA, for being named an All American by just about every news outlet in America that names such teams. However, lets be honest. There are problems in Athens when your punter is the highlight of your team. I am so sick of Georgia fans bringing up their punter all the time. Talking about punters belongs in such places like Raleigh, Chestnut Hill and Nashville, if you get my drift.

And for what it’s worth, I’ll take the other Bulldog kicker, Blair Walsh, on my NFL team right now! This kid is a beast and much more impressive to me that Butler.

*I’m hearing a lot of people complaining about the blackout situation in the NFL, specifically down in Jacksonville. I will not call out fans or cities with attendance problems. This economy does not allow people the luxury of as many sporting events these days and for all that fans have given to American sports over the years I am more than willing to give them a pass right now. Believe it or not, sports isn’t always a priority.

*Did anyone notice Rick Reilly co-anchoring Sports Center this weekend? Not bad actually. I have not liked his ESPN work to this point and figured he would be terrible behind the Sports Center desk, but he was solid. I still think he belongs on the back page of Sports Illustrated, don’t you?

*I’m enjoying the role reversal with our two college football programs this December. Usually it is the boys up in Athens that are headed to a New Year’s Day or BCS bowl game and have stability in their coaching ranks. Instead, it’s a trip to Shreveport and a continuing search for a defensive coordinator. And beware Dawg fans, more than likely the hire will be anticlimactic and a let down.

*Has anyone heard from Braves GM Frank Wren? It might be time for Frank to get busy if you know what I mean.
