Heading to the Playoffs!

PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? In golf this used to be a question , but with the start of the FedEx Cup three years ago, Playoffs became a reality on the largest stage in golf, The PGA TOUR. The PGA Championship is over and I am pretty sure no one in the world could have picked the 4 MAJOR Champion winners of 2009. The last major saw the impossible happen and Tiger blow a 54-hole lead to Y.E. Yang??? I for one think it could not have happened at a better time for golf. With the first hurdle crossed in the road to Olympic glory, golf couldn’t have had a better time for the first Asian Major winner. With the golf economy struggling in the U.S., a win by Y.E. and the Olympic flame starting to become a reality might be the savior the major equipment manufacturers have been hoping for. I myself ...

What a day! Open starts in the AM…

A day in Scotland without rain! This was a first for me as every single day I have ever spent in Scotland it has rained….but not today. The course here at Turnberry is getting rave reviews from the players and it looks like the weather might only be horrible on Friday. Look for a great OPEN with lots of storylines. The Shark is looking to make a splash again after his resurgence last year, Tiger…well can he be beat, Who can be the next Ben Curtis or Todd Hamilton, Rory or Ian or Paul, also a major American player might not tee it up due to a possible severe sickness …so many! The food here is very different and I wouldn’t say it is “comfort food”. I am also not used to sitting in the driver seat with no steering wheel on the wrong side of the road…crazy. Pay attention ...

Memphis, Bethpage and Elvis

This week on the PGA TOUR is The Stanford….sorry….The St. Jude Presented by FedEx or the return of Daly and Phil presented by FedEx. With that being said the field in this week’s event is STRONG with names such as Stenson, Villegas, Goosen, and Mickelson, but has been overshadowed by the return of Daly and even though a better story Phil. While Phil’s return is newsworthy due to Amy’s battle with breast cancer and the strength it takes to play this week and next before treatment starts, Daly’s story is not. Haven’t we heard this before and now he comes lighter and brighter back on the scene(yes I am talking about those pants ) and his lap band which has helped him lose 60 lbs. The story’s this week should be Phil and his preparation for his return to New York(because he has a real chance to win) and the ...

PINK OUT!

Posted 5/29/2009 4:50:00 PM
The most interesting thing likely to happen this weekend at The Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial will happen Saturday when almost all of the players in the field will don a PINK shirt in honor of Amy Mickelson and her fight against breast cancer. Phil’s wife was diagnosed a few weeks ago and didn’t receive any encouraging news until late yesterday when word came that doctors think they caught it early. Being a manager myself it was an interesting week trying to get a pink shirt at a moment’s notice from clothing companies that usually don’t have a pink shirt in their line. With that being said all of the companies I worked with made huge efforts to get a shirt for each player after hearing about the cause and scene they would be supporting on Saturday. I believe if you look at how the PGA TOUR community have ...

Sunday is always a tough afternoon for me as I sit an carefully watch the leaderboard on PGATOUR.COM either on my trusty laptop or my Tmobile G1. Some Sundays are better than others on the leaderboard, but this past Sunday was a good one as I turned on the TV to watch the Valero Texas Open from San Antonio. Paul Goydos, hero of last year’s TPC and one of my clients, was hovering around the lead in the final round after topping the leader board after the first two. It is hard to explain my emotions on a day like this as I can promise you I am probably more nervous than Paul and his caddie combined. The hardest part is having no control over the outcome, but wanting to contribute so bad. It was a back and forth type day where none of the leaders, Zach Johnson, Justin Leonard, ...

Texas Three Step

The Masters is over, The Players is over…Some things to think about as we head into the brand new “Texas Swing”…

The PGA TOUR moved the Fall series event, The Valero Texas Open, into a primetime spot to make the new “Texas Swing” in which the TOUR travels the Lonestar state for 3 straight weeks before ramping up to the Memorial and US OPEN.

1. How much longer is Hank going to be Tiger’s swing coach? My guess would be that Barkley might have a full time swing coach soon.

2. How good is Henrik Stenson? Better than we can ever imagine…The TPC Championship is just the beginning…better yet how good is Faldo’s former caddie Fanny Sunesson who is on his bag?

3. How bad was Kate Hudson for Adam Scott’s golf game? Adam who was linked to the Hollywood starlet earlier this year while at the Mercedes Championship in ...

A MAJOR Perspective…

Major Season has arrived and so has Jet Lag. For the first time since becoming a manager , I made the trek out to Palm Springs for the years first “Major” which is the Kraft Nabisco LPGA tournament. I had never been to a LPGA major and was very excited to notch another Major off my bedpost as I have been to all 4 of the PGA TOUR’s. I really didn’t know what to expect as I stepped off the plane in LA and made the drive through the windmill farms and of course stopping at In & Out Burger along the way. Would the famous jump into the water by the winner live up to the donning of the green jacket in Butler Cabin? Would the players be focused and intense just as if they were pulling onto Magnolia Lane? Did the Cotton Candy and Kettle Corn match up ...

Lions and Tigers and Bears …Oh My!

Posted 3/16/2009 6:00:00 PM
The start of the 2009 PGA TOUR season has been full of animals…or at least players and companies with animal names or nicknames making the headlines. The economic crunch has finally hit the PGA TOUR and the Bulls and the Bears on Wall Street have had a big impact on the current and future landscape of the once untouchable TOUR. Commissioner Finchem sent out a video message to all players in the first week of January asking for their help in playing a few more of the lesser events that they might skip and while playing to engage the sponsors more. This “players only” message made it out to the mainstream media and can be found in e-mails and sites across the web. Coincidental…I think not. Finchem realized long before Barney Frank and John Kerry that 2009 was going to be a year that the PGA TOUR and players would ...
